Projects & plans
How many projects can I have?+
Scene Stealer includes one story project — enough to find your footing. Act Master and Auteur are unlimited: develop as many stories as you like side by side.
What does a new project start with?+
Every project opens with a three-act structure ready to fill in — Act I, II, and III, each with scenes you can add, reorder, and break down. You're never starting from a blank void.
What can I do before January 1?+
Story Review is free for everyone right now — no account needed. A confirmed eligible subscription or trial opens the workspace immediately, including before public launch. Your pre-launch trial still runs until January 1, 2027 — that's your first charge. Collaboration depends on your plan.
Writing & breakdown
What does the script editor actually support?+
A real screenplay page in Courier with standard formatting: scene headings, action, character cues, parentheticals, dialogue, and transitions. Each scene also carries a goal, conflict, and outcome, and you can attach characters from your project's cast list.
Does the editor understand screenplay elements?+
Yes. Type a scene heading like EXT. ROOF - DAWN and it's recognized as a heading; a line in caps becomes a character cue; a line in parentheses becomes a parenthetical; what follows is dialogue; and endings like CUT TO: are treated as transitions. The script page formats each element the way a screenplay expects.
How does the breakdown connect to the script?+
Your premise, acts, scenes, and characters live in one connected project. The outline sidebar, story breakdown, and script page are views of the same work — change a scene's summary and it's there when you export.
Does my work save automatically?+
Yes — the editor autosaves as you write, and warns you before leaving with unsaved changes. Your dashboard tracks word counts, active projects, and deadlines you've set for yourself.
Collaboration & feedback
Can my writing partner see my project?+
On Act Master and Auteur, yes. Invite a partner by email and they can read your drafts and leave feedback. Scene Stealer is a solo plan. Partners you invite get access to the projects you share with them — nothing else.
What can a partner actually do?+
Partners read your draft snapshots and script pages, and leave feedback notes you can act on or remove. You stay in control: you can remove a collaborator at any time, and your drafts are private to you and the partners you invite.
Is there a public showcase? Will strangers see my script?+
No. There is no public gallery and no way for anyone you haven't invited to see your projects. Your work is private by default.
Version history
Can I see every change made to a project?+
On Act Master and Auteur, yes. Version history records who edited what and when, and you can view any earlier version side by side with the current one.
Will autosave flood my history with hundreds of entries?+
No. Your own autosaves within a 10-minute window fold into a single version. A new entry starts when you come back later — or when a different collaborator edits, so you can always see exactly what your partner changed.
Can I undo a bad edit?+
Yes. Restore any earlier version and it becomes the current draft — and the restore itself is recorded as a new version, so nothing is ever truly lost.
Exports & compatibility
Can I take my script into Final Draft?+
Yes — export a native .fdx file. Acts become act breaks, scenes become scene headings, action and dialogue map to the right elements, and your scene notes travel as non-printing summaries. Open it directly in Final Draft and keep working.
What about WriterDuet or Fade In?+
Export a .fountain file — both apps import Fountain natively. The export includes a proper title page (title, written-by, draft date, and your logline), act markers, forced scene headings, and clean dialogue with normalized line endings.
Why does the title page matter?+
Because a script you submit needs your name on it. Set your pen name and contact details on your profile once, and every export's title page carries them — no more anonymous drafts.
Can I print a properly formatted script?+
Yes. Print or save to PDF from the script page and you get a real screenplay layout: US Letter, a 1.5-inch binding margin, 12-point Courier, roughly 55 lines per page, page numbers, and scene headings that never break awkwardly across pages.
