THE WRITER'S GUIDE

Screenwriting software

Choose a tool for the work your next draft needs—not just the way a finished script looks. STORYCRAFTER connects story planning with screenplay drafting, then lets you export your work to continue elsewhere.

Start with the story, not the formatting

Script formatting and story development solve different problems. A correctly formatted scene can still lack a clear goal or believable turning point. Before choosing software, decide whether you need help organizing a premise, developing characters, drafting pages, or exchanging notes on an existing draft.

In STORYCRAFTER, a project's logline, premise and theme sit alongside its acts and scenes. Character records hold roles, wants, needs, arcs and notes. Each scene can capture its summary, goal, conflict and outcome, with links to the characters involved.

Move from scene outline to screenplay

Organize acts and reorder scenes, then draft scene headings, action and dialogue in the script editor. Character cues, parentheticals and transitions are supported. Autosave keeps the project connected to your account; check that saving has finished before leaving.

This is structured planning and drafting, not a promise that software will write a finished screenplay for you. The separate free AI review assesses the material you submit and asks development questions rather than replacing your dialogue or plot.

Keep your next writing tool in mind

STORYCRAFTER offers Fountain (.fountain), Final Draft (.fdx) and plain-text downloads. Print/PDF uses your browser's print dialog. An export file is not a direct integration with another writing app: open a sample in your intended tool and check scene order, character cues and formatting before moving an entire draft.

You can keep drafting in STORYCRAFTER or use its planning work alongside another screenplay editor. The right choice depends on where you want to revise, print and deliver your script.

Feedback without a public showcase

Eligible sharing plans let you invite writing partners to private projects and exchange draft feedback. Invited readers do not need to buy their own plan; access depends on their invitation and the owner's current sharing entitlement. This is not a public script gallery or a promise of live simultaneous co-editing.

For a smaller first step, submit a screenplay excerpt or outline for a limited-use free AI review without signing up. Afterward, sign in to save and privately share that review for writer feedback—separate from paid project sharing.

Before you choose a screenwriting tool

  • Does its planning structure match how you develop characters and scenes?
  • Can you draft and revise the screenplay elements you use?
  • Do its exports open correctly in your next editor?
  • Who can read your work, and how is private feedback handled?
  • Does your selected plan include the project limits, sharing and revision-history access you need?

Signup alone does not activate a paid workspace. An eligible subscription or trial must be confirmed before project access opens. Check current plan details and payment availability before purchasing.
